AUC Chairperson was this evening hosted by H.E. Friedrich Merz, Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, was this evening hosted by H.E. Friedrich Merz, Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of #Germany, at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin.

Discussions with the Chancellor focused on further strengthening the African Union-Germany partnership, including in the areas of peace & security, regional integration, renewable energy, & broader Africa-Europe cooperation. The Chairperson expressed appreciation for Germany's consistent & principled engagement with Africa, notably within the framework of AU-Germany, & AU-EU cooperation.

Chancellor Merz reaffirmed that Africa remains a key partner for Germany & Europe, underscoring the importance of Africa's development to shared global prosperity & stability.

They also exchanged views on the situation in Sudan, emphasising the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire & a return to constitutional order. The Chairperson conveyed appreciation for Germany's leadership in hosting the Sudan Conference, while the Chancellor acknowledged the AU's role as co-convener. Discussions also covered the impact of the conflict in the Persian Gulf of Africa.

Earlier in the day, the Chairperson held consultations with H.E. Johann Wadephul, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in Berlin.
