Himes to Oppose ICE Funding in Homeland Security Bill

Washington, DC-Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) today released the following statement regarding his intention to vote against the Department of Homeland Security bill that includes funding for ICE.

"I will not facilitate the lawlessness of an agency that is murdering young mothers, threatening peaceful protestors with assault rifles, and kidnapping elderly Americans out of their homes. Trump may think he rules by divine right, but this country is still a democracy and the President is still beholden to the constitution. The Department of Homeland Security should not receive one more cent of government funding until we see accountability for the death of Renee Good and the other atrocities being visited on our communities.

"If my Republican colleagues were genuinely interested in furthering legal and humane immigration efforts, they would have supported meaningful reforms that ensure ICE officers do not threaten the safety or civil liberties of Americans. Instead, we're voting on a bill that enables an indefensible status quo. I will vote no."
