DENVER, CO - Gov. Jared Polis just announcedthat Colorado is increasing electric vehicle (EV) subsidies for low- and middle-income drivers to help offset the Trump administration's elimination of EV tax credits through the Republicans' budget bill. The federal EV tax credit expired on Sept. 30.

Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, the EV tax credit has saved consumers billions of dollars on the upfront cost of used and new EVs.

Starting in November, the Vehicle Exchange Colorado program will boost its point-of-sale rebate for new hybrid and electric vehicles to $9,000 from $6,000. For used EVs, the rebate will rise to $6,000 from $4,000.

In response, Eric Willadsen, Campaign Organizing Strategist for Sierra Club's Clean Transportation for All Campaign released the following statement:

"No matter how hard he tries, Trump cannot stop the national movement towards cleaner cars. State leadership on clean transportation and clean energy is more important than ever right now. Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans' attack on the federal EV tax credit is robbing people of their choice to buy or lease electric vehicles that are good for our wallets, clean air, and the climate. We applaud Gov. Polis for expanding EV incentives to ensure Coloradans won't be left behind on the EV transition and will still have the opportunity to go electric and save money on fuel."
