University Art Department hosts fall exhibits

The first two art exhibits this season at Pittsburg State University are by professional artists Amanda Lilleston and Lauren Reese.

Both exhibits will be on view from Aug. 19 through Oct. 2, with a shared reception on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibits and reception are free and open to the public.

Interstitium

Lilleston, an artist, printmaker, and educator, created the exhibit Interstitium.

Drawing from her background in biology, Lilleston's work explores the interconnected relationships between living systems through printmaking, collage, and installation. Through layered processes of cutting, printing, and reconstruction, Interstitium investigates transformation, interdependence, and the fluid boundaries between bodies and environments.

Experience this thought-provoking exhibition in the University Gallery in Porter Hall, 202 E. Cleveland Ave., from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cityscapes

Reese, an interdisciplinary artist with a background in painting and printmaking, created the exhibit Cityscapes.

In it, Reese explores the relationship between natural landscapes and man-made environments. Inspired by Michael Heizer's monumental earthwork City, her small-scale oil paintings frame landscapes through architectural elements, contrasting the Nevada desert with the built environment of Las Vegas.

Through intimate, anti-monumental works shaped by memory, sketches, and fleeting observations, Cityscapes explores the sublime and the ways we experience natural beauty through the framework of architecture.

It may be viewed in the Krug Gallery in Porter Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
