UNGA: bilateral meeting with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic

While attending the UN General Assembly's high-level week, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmed Al-Sharaa.

The meeting provided an opportunity to confirm Italy's support for the reconstruction of a stable and sovereign Syria, including through Italian companies investing in numerous sectors of mutual interest. In this context, President Meloni also highlighted the important commitments the Italian Government has made regarding development cooperation in the nation.

During the meeting, President Meloni lastly shared the need to work on the issue of including and safeguarding all members of Syrian society, starting with minorities such as the Christian one, as well as the need to continue efforts to ensure Syrian refugees can return home safely and on a voluntary basis.
