Pew Commends Oregon Governor’s Executive Order Advancing More Resilient Lands and Waters

Portland, OR-The Pew Charitable Trusts today commended Oregon Governor Tina Kotek (D) for issuing an executive order that sets a bold path toward conserving and restoring the state's natural and working lands and waters in the face of climate-related effects. The directive calls on state agencies to work together to strengthen the ability of Oregon's lands and waters to adapt to and recover from increasing environmental changes, including frequent, severe natural disasters and extreme weather events.

Executive Order No. 25-26 directs agencies to identify key ecological factors that support climate resilience and to account for both current and predicted future climate conditions in land and water management decisions.

Andy Maggi, a member of The Pew Charitable Trusts' U.S. conservation team, issued the following statement:

"Governor Kotek's order is a critical step forward. Its implementation will help safeguard Oregon's natural resources, ensuring that the state's landscapes remain resilient and adaptable to environmental changes.
