On March 8, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a multi-suite residence in the 600 block of Furby Street. Attending members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service evacuated the residence prior to attacking the fire and bringing it under control.
Through the investigation, it was learned that a resident had set fire to his suite for unknown reasons, filling the residence with smoke. Residents were evacuated for their safety, and the suspect was transported to hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
After he was medically cleared at hospital, Central District General Patrol officers arrested and transported the suspect to police headquarters to be processed.
Lyndon THOMAS (35) has been charged with Arson with Disregard for Human Life.
THOMAS was detained in custody.
