CFAES celebrates first-ever Ohio 4-H Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is celebrating Ohio 4-H Week from March 8-14, recognizing the impact of 4-H youth development programs across the state.

Designated in state law for the first time through House Bill 65, Ohio 4-H Week will now be observed annually during the week ending with the second Saturday of March. The 2026 theme, "Grows Leaders," reflects the mission of Ohio 4-H to inspire curiosity, fuel adventure and build lifelong skills that prepare young people to lead in their communities and careers.

"Ohio 4-H Week celebrates the spirit of community that makes 4-H thrive. From clubs and camps to classrooms and county fairs, 4-H brings people together with a shared commitment to learning, leadership and service. We are proud to support a program that strengthens every corner of our state," said Crystal Ott, Ohio 4-H Foundation director.

Ohio 4-H youth development, a program delivered by Ohio State University Extension, serves youth in all 88 counties. In 2025, nearly 200,000 Ohio youths participated in community clubs and 4-H educational outreach programs spanning animal and biological sciences, engineering, agriculture, health and leadership. OSU Extension is CFAES' outreach arm.

Ohio 4-H provides early exposure to college pathways, career exploration and hands-on skill building, helping young people see themselves as future scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and community leaders.

Throughout the week, Ohio 4-H invites members, alumni, volunteers, families and supporters to take part in daily activities and share their 4-H pride. A statewide social media campaign will highlight stories of leadership and service. Supporters are encouraged to wear green on March 11 and share photos online to show their support for Ohio 4-H. More information about the daily themes is available online.

Ohio 4-H focuses on hands-on learning in areas such as science, health, agriculture and civic engagement. Youth members develop practical skills while building confidence, responsibility and a commitment to service. The program also relies on the dedication of adult volunteers and community partners who mentor youth and expand access to educational opportunitiesacross urban, suburban and rural communities statewide.

Those interested in getting involved can volunteer with a local 4-H club, serve as a project mentor or support the program through charitable giving. Information about membership, volunteering and donations is available online.
