Mayor Quinton Lucas Appointed President of Democratic Mayors Association

KANSAS CITY, MO - Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has been appointed President of the Democratic Mayors Association (DMA), the national organization representing Democratic mayors of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. The Mayor's appointment runs through August 2027.

Mayor Lucas will lead the organization at a time when America's cities are leading the country with effective governance, crime reduction, nonpartisan service delivery, and housing production while gridlock hinders progress in Washington and our state capitals. This time also presents challenges of federal occupation, funding threats, and disruption to major US cities.

"I'm honored to lead and work alongside mayors from across the country who are delivering results for their residents every day," said Mayor Lucas. "Democratic mayors are delivering historic crime reductions, growth in affordable housing creation, and are doing so at a time when cities and our residents are under attack. I look forward to supporting my fellow mayors, amplifying their innovation, and seeing mayors lead messaging for Democrats nationally as we head into the 2026 midterms and the next presidential election."

As President, Mayor Lucas will help guide DMA's efforts to support and elect Democratic mayors, share solutions from cities, and strengthen the voice of mayors as essential leaders within the Democratic Party. Earlier in the week, Mayor Lucas joined Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin to discuss the role mayors will have in shaping the narrative for the party's future.

Mayor Lucas brings extensive experience in municipal leadership to the role. Since taking office in 2019, he has focused on affordable housing development, public safety reform, economic opportunity, and infrastructure investment. Under his leadership, Kansas City has made significant strides in expanding transit options, addressing housing affordability, and preparing to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Democratic Mayors Association is the only organization solely dedicated to supporting and electing Democratic mayors and mayoral candidates. DMA plays a critical role in strengthening local leadership and advancing Democratic values at the municipal level.
