Gov. Rhoden Signs Crypto Security Bills

PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed three cryptocurrency security bills into law.

"My number one priority is keeping South Dakotans safe - and as technology continues to grow, we need to proactively protect people from scams and financial abuse," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "Criminals are increasingly using digital tools and cryptocurrency to take advantage of others, so these bills will help safeguard against fraud and exploitation."

Governor Rhoden signed the following three bills into law:

  • SB 43addresses search and seizure provisions applicable to digital currency;
  • SB 98prevents virtual currency kiosk fraud; and
  • HB 1238protects financial institutions taking action to prevent the financial exploitation of consenting, senior, or vulnerable adults.

Governor Rhoden has signed 147 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
