WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Republican Governors Association (RGA) released the following response to Tina Kotek's announcement that she will run for re-election in Oregon:
"Tina Kotek has made the most extreme policies the law of the land in Oregon, and it's hardworking families who are suffering. From a housing affordability crisis, to failing to address the homelessness crisis, to ranking among the worst in the nation for jobs and education, Tina Kotek has taken Oregon in the wrong direction. Oregonians deserve a governor who focuses on making their lives better, and Tina Kotek has proven time and again that is not her priority," said RGA Communications Director Courtney Alexander.
Tina Kotek's Record:
Even though state auditors in the Secretary of State's Office warned that Oregon's approach to public school spending and lack of accountability would put the state at risk of wasting taxpayers' money and failing to improve student performance, test results in math and reading for Oregon's middle and elementary students are among the worst in the nation.
Despite a $1 billion a year corporate tax to support education funding, Oregon continues to rank near the bottom for public education systems.
Oregon's business reputation dropped to an all-time low in national rankings as the state experiences what has been described as "a historic wave of job cuts."
Oregon, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, ranks as one of the worst states to find a job according to a recent study.
As residents and high-paying jobs leave the area, economists have warned that Portland could face an "urban doom loop."
