NEW YORK CITY - Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.
The Senator underscored the importance of Qatar's constructive role in mediating conflicts and contributing to stability in some of the most fragile counties in the region. She noted that the United States values its partnership with Qatar and emphasized that this cooperation can help deliver a prosperous and secure future for the Qatari people and the entire region.
Senator Shaheen discussed her bipartisan effort to repeal the Syria Caesar sanctions law and highlighted the positive role that Qatar plays in Syria by promoting investment and effective governance, with region-wide benefits to stability. The Senator also noted that Israel's recent air strikes in Qatar were a setback for efforts to advance peace in the region.
