Omaha, NE - Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) celebrates Arbor Day. Ricketts supporteda resolution to designate "Arbor Day." The resolution celebrates the 154th anniversary of Arbor Day and recognizes the importance of planting and caring for trees. Arbor Day was founded by Nebraskan J. Sterling Morton.
"Arbor Day is one of my favorite Nebraska traditions. For the first Arbor Day on April 10, 1872, Nebraskans planted one million trees," said Ricketts. "Today Nebraskans mark the occasion, along with communities across the country, in conserving our natural resources by planting trees."
The Arbor Day Resolution was introduced by Senators Angus King (I-ME) and James Risch (R-ID).
