The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts is pleased to present the Lawton Community Orchestra in concert on Tuesday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which will take place in the McCutcheon Recital Hall, will feature a diverse repertoire presented in a chamber music style.
Tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adult and $8 for senior citizens, members of the military and non-CU students. Cameron University students, faculty and staff receive one free admission with their CU I.D. Tickets can be reserved by calling the box office at 580-581-2346. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at https://www.cameron.edu/art-music-and-theatre/events/buy-tickets. (Taxes and processing fees apply.)
The concert will open with Doug Spata's "Zydeco Two-Step," which blends the country fiddle style with the blues bass lines of the Mississippi Delta, followed by Richard Meyer's string arrangement of Scott Joplin's "Tangerine Rag." Next up will be "Bossa Verde" by Bert Ligon, a bossa nova written for string ensemble, and Lennie Niehaus' "Reflections," a spirited tune in D-minor that has two contrasting sections. Closing out the program will be two movements ― Beethoven's Serenade I for string trio, Op. 8, of which we will play the Marcia Allegro (movement 1) and the Adagio (movement 2).
The Lawton Community Orchestra is directed by Angela Ruiz. The ensemble members include Cameron students Kaitlan Kaulaity, Kim Lamkin and Seth McCoy; and community members Dolores Anderson, Gracie Wilcox and Xavier McClure.
