Commissioner Mason named ACCG committee Chair

ATLANTA, Ga. (June 25, 2025) - Newton County District 3 Commissioner Demond Mason was reappointed as Chair of the Revenue and Finance Policy Committee for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG).

ACCG President and Dougherty County Commissioner Clinton Johnson made the appointment of the two-term district commissioner.

"I am honored to serve a second year as Chairman of the ACCG Revenue and Finance Committee for the new policy council term, "Mason said. "This opportunity allows me to work collaboratively with leaders from across Georgia to ensure our counties are financially resilient, transparent, and strategically positioned for growth. I look forward to advancing recommended policies for current and future legislation that support sound fiscal stewardship and benefit all Georgians."

Through a consensus-based policy development process, ACCG policy committees develop positions on key issues impacting county government. Those issues are later approved by the full association membership as the ACCG Policy Priorities, which guide the association's advocacy efforts on behalf of counties during the legislative session.

The Revenue and Finance Committee considers policies on behalf of local taxpayers to ensure that revenue and budget decisions made at the state level do not negatively impact county finances and county taxpayers. Issues considered by this committee include local sales and use taxes, property taxes and user fees.

"Advocacy is a foundational aspect of our organization, and our policy committee leaders are essential to our advocacy efforts," said Executive Director Dave Wills. "ACCG prioritizes being a member-driven and focused organization. The Governmental Affairs staff is eager to collaborate with these new leaders to help impact change on issues of significance to all Georgia counties."
