The holidays are in full swing! We know you might have extra garbage or a real Christmas tree to get rid of once the festivities are over. Not to worry - real Christmas tree collection and Double-Up Days are back in January!
Here's everything you need to know before collection day:
Double-Up Days
Double-Up Days take place on either the week of Jan. 6 or Jan. 13, depending on your scheduled collection day. You can place up to six garbage items curbside with no paid garbage tags required.
Remember:
Place items curbside on the morning of your collection day, no later than 7 a.m. Crews will not return for items set out late.
Large or bulky items, such as mattresses, chairs and tables, can be placed curbside, and each piece counts as one item toward the six-item limit. Read the guidelinesfor setting out large or bulky items for more details. The City reserves the right to refuse unsafe, overweight or oversized items.
The City also picks up toilets curbside. Two-piece toilets must be disassembled to be collected, as shown in this short video.
Large mirrors and glass tables set out for collection must be wrapped in cardboard and clearly labelled "glass."
Large metal items and appliances, such as dishwashers and refrigerators, are collected by appointment on Thursdays only. Book an appointment and pay online through Service Vaughanor call the City at 905-832-2281.
Household hazardous waste(such as batteries, cleaners and paints) and electronic waste (such as cellphones and laptops) are not collected curbside and must be taken to a York Region Waste Depotfor safe disposal.
Real Christmas tree collection
Real Christmas tree collection takes place during the weeks of Jan. 6 and Jan. 13, regardless of your collection week. For example, if you live in the yellow zone and your collection day is Wednesday, you can put your real Christmas tree curbside on Wednesday, Jan. 7, or Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Remember to use your green bin!
Before setting your garbage bags out for Double-Up Days, make sure none of the items belong in the green bin. If you don't know where to dispose of an item, use the online 'What Goes Where?' sorting tool to check using the search function. You can also download the free Recycle Coach app from the Apple App Store or Google Playfor more sorting help. The app provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put at the curb each week.
