WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) today participated in a Homeland Security Counterterrorism and Intelligence hearing on the rise of antisemitic extremism, using the panel to condemnanti-Jewish bigotry and call out lax enforcement by the Trump administration in combating antisemitism and homegrown extremists.
"The rise of antisemitism in the United States and across the world is alarming. Especially after the October 7 terrorist attack, antisemitic attacks have increased exponentially," said Congresswoman Pou. "Today, President Trump and his administration have cut vital federal funding and programs that are key in fighting against antisemitism and protecting targeted populations. These freezes and cuts must be reversed immediately."
In questioning hearing witnesses, Congresswoman Pou focused on increasing support for the federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program to protect synagogues, churches, mosques, schools, and other houses of worship, and criticized the Trump administration's movement of law enforcement resources away from addressing antisemitism and homegrown extremism.
"How does redirecting federal funds and resources from homegrown extremists and domestic terrorists affect the safety and security of the Jewish community?" Pou asked one witness.
