Heffley Applauds SNAP Resumption, Pushes for Accountability

Nov. 14, 2025

HARRISBURG - Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) has announced Pennsylvania will resume paying Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), benefits should be received by the end of the week. "I am grateful those who need these benefits will start to receive them again," Heffley, Republican chair of the House Human Services Committee, said. "SNAP is essential for families, seniors and individuals across our Commonwealth who rely on this program to put food on the table." SNAP benefits were temporarily paused due to the federal government shutdown, which disrupted funding and delayed payments nationwide. Following a bipartisan agreement in Congress to end the shutdown, DHS is able to resume full benefit payments. "It's unfortunate benefits were disrupted," Heffley said. "Moving forward, I want to ensure those needing SNAP benefits receive them. That's why I just voted 'yes' on a state budget and Human Services Code, which included important safeguard and accountability measures to put us in step with new federal guidelines." The 2025-26 state budget, signed into law on Wednesday, calls for numerous credibility measures including creating a more accountable and secure process to reduce failures in SNAP, such as transitioning to chip-enabled benefit cards and reviewing how benefits are distributed.
