Governor Polis and Department of Public Safety Release Violent and Property Crime Decreases in 2025

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice released new statewide data showing that Colorado's violent and property crime rates significantly declined in 2025.

"In the last two years crime has decreased in Colorado and that's because we are taking a data-driven approach to reducing crime and investing in public safety initiatives that keep our communities safe. Every Colorado community should be a safe place where people can thrive and this is exciting progress in making all our communities safer," said Governor Polis.

The violent crime rate decreased 10.7% from 2024 to 2025, representing 3,372 fewer reported violent crimes statewide. The property crime rate decreased 17.3%, representing 28,126 fewer reported property crimes.

The largest rate declines included motor vehicle theft, down 36.8%; robbery, down 23.9%; burglary, down 18.5%; and homicide, down 16.8%. The aggravated assault rate decreased 9.0%, while the reported sexual assault rate decreased 8.1%.

Key 2025 changes

• 11,196 fewer motor vehicle thefts
• 13,155 fewer larceny/theft incidents
• 1,912 fewer aggravated assaults

"These numbers represent fewer crimes reported in communities across our state and the dedication of law enforcement and community partners working every day for our neighbors across Colorado and that is meaningful progress," said Matt Lunn, director of the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice.

The analysis draws from crime data submitted by law enforcement agencies to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and published through Colorado Crime Statistics. Data were extracted June 9, 2026, and may differ from local reports because of submission timing or different extraction dates.
