On the occasion of Chinese New Year, Armenia’s Ambassador to China shared in an interview with CCTV 13

Interviewer: The friendship between China and Armenia has a long history and has grown stronger over time. In August last year, the two sides established a strategic partnership, marking an important milestone in the history of bilateral relations. In the eyes of the Armenian Ambassador to China, Gevorgyan, the Chinese Spring Festival is a warm moment for family reunions and also symbolizes the revival of all things and a new beginning. After more than 20 years, Gevorgyan has returned to China to serve as the Armenian Ambassador. He stated that the changes in China are astonishing. China has successfully explored a new development model, and this experience holds significant reference value for other countries.

Ambassador Vahe Gevorgyan: In China, the New Year is associated with rejuvenation. So time goes by, but instead of being sad about passing time, we do quite the opposite. It's an opportunity to renew, to make new plans, to start life again. In that case, the Chinese New Year, as a new year also in Armenia, is related to rejuvenation and renewal. The horse is a highly revered creature in Armenian mythology and proverbs. Our national epic poem, Daredevils of Sassoon, has a very important character-an immortal horse. So the horse is always side by side with the hero.

In 2025, we were able to advance our cooperation at three levels: bilateral, regional, and global. Last year brought many achievements to our relations. First of all, the main achievement was upgrading our cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership, done by our leaders on the margins of the SEO summit. This is a very important milestone for our relations. High-level dialogue will guide our relations, our cooperation also in 2026.

Areas such as connectivity, bilateral trade, and investments will be high on the agenda of our cooperation in the coming year. Also, Armenia will be hosting COP 17 on biodiversity, and we know that this topic is very high on the agenda of the Chinese government. We look forward to a very significant contribution from China to the success of COP17.

Previously, we used to think that there was only one model of development, one model of globalization, but China has succeeded in showing that diversity in this world is still alive, and an ancient civilization can produce a new, modern model of development, which can also be shared with other nations. In that case, the Chinese experience is very valuable.
