Redwood City - Join the County of San Mateo and the San Mateo County History Museumthis Thursday evening for a joint celebration of the county's 169th anniversary and 500 County Center, an award-winning sustainable office building of timber and glass that houses several departments.
The night includes live music and a re-enactment of the county's early days at the museum followed by a musical procession to 500 County Centerwhere the 208,000-square-foot building will be officially dedicated. Attendees can then enjoy a live DJ, kids crafts and watch a mini-documentary on the Herculean effort needed to make the building move from ideas and renderings to an innovative and welcoming space for staff and visitors.
"This will be an unforgettable evening marking the 169th anniversary of San Mateo County and the grand unveiling of 500 County Center, which represents the cultural, artistic, political and economic revival of what has become the healthiest and near wealthiest county in California. Make this a night to show your love for the county we call home, learn a little history at the same time and celebrate the dedication of 500 County Center, the greenest civic building in the United States," said San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President David Canepa.
At barely a year old, 500 County Center is already accumulating accolades, including sustainability awards from Engineering News Record and the American Institute of Architects.
