MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK, Colo.- Mesa Verde National Park and Yucca House National Monument will enact stage 2 fire restrictions on August 8, 2025. In stage 2 restrictions, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove are prohibited. This includes a prohibition on campfires in Morefield Campground.

Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fueled devices that can be turned on and off, such as stoves, lanterns, or heating devices are allowed, but only if they are UL Listed as meeting fire safety standards. You must also only use them in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the device.

These restrictions are necessary due to current and predicted weather and fuel conditions, as well as corresponding fire danger rating levels. Other land management agencies in the area are also moving to stage 2 as the entire region faces critical fire conditions.

"With multiple wildfires burning in southwest Colorado, preventing human-caused fires is critical," said Mesa Verde Superintendent Kayci Cook. "Stage 2 restrictions will allow visitors to continue to enjoy Mesa Verde while reducing the chances of unwanted fires."
