Medical Aid Supports Flood Response in Hawai'i
Across the Hawaiian Islands, Direct Relief is delivering additional medical aid to support ongoing flood response efforts. A new shipment has been sent to the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaiʻi, building on earlier support, including a $25,000 emergency operating grant supporting mobile health services and the distribution of essential supplies.
The shipment, totaling approximately 400 pounds, includes medical supplies intended for use in both clinical and community settings. Items include antibiotics, IV fluids, eyewash, skin cleansers, and wound care supplies, along with sanitation products to support safe, hygienic care. These materials are intended to help providers address a range of immediate health needs, from treating infections and water purification to supporting basic first aid.
Direct Relief has staff on the ground, coordinating with local partners to assess evolving health needs and support access to care as recovery efforts progress.
Direct Relief has delivered more than $232,000 in medical aid, totaling approximately 5,500 pounds of supplies and more than 50,000 defined daily doses of medications, to support communities across Hawai'i since March 21.
Medications Support Healthcare Across Chad
In Chad, a recent handover ceremony with the Ministry of Health marked the delivery of critical medical aid to support health services nationwide. The shipment, formally received by the Minister of Health and ministry officials, reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen access to essential care across the country.
Direct Relief delivered essential medicines and midwife kits. The medicines-commonly used to treat infections, reduce pain and fever, and manage respiratory conditions-are intended to support primary care at health facilities nationwide. The midwife kits, consisting of complete and replenishment sets, are designed to support safe deliveries and strengthen maternal and neonatal care.
"This is about making sure care is actually available when patients show up. Whether it's treating infections or supporting mothers during delivery, these are the basics that matter most." - Jeffrey Samuel, Regional Director, Africa Programs
As distribution of the supplies continues across the country, the support is expected to help address immediate gaps in routine care while reinforcing frontline maternal health services. Ongoing coordination with health authorities will help assess evolving needs and ensure continued support where it is most needed.
