UNCCD COP 17 Media Briefing by Earth Negotiations Bulletin

Land degradation is already affecting up to 40% of the world's land, with far-reaching impacts on food production, water availability, livelihoods and economic stability. Droughts are increasing in frequency and severity, exacerbated by climate change and unsustainable land management.

At upcoming negotiations for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), countries will attempt to advance a coordinated response to accelerating desertification, drought and land degradation-while coping with increasingly fragmented geopolitical relations.
