Taft Expands Tax Practice with 10-Member Team

Taft, one of the fastest-growing law firms in the country, announced today the addition of a 10-member specialty tax team to its Tax practice, led by partner Gina Staudacher. The group combines professionals from legal, accounting, engineering, and actuarial disciplines, including backgrounds from Big Four accounting firms and in-house roles at a global OEM and a national insurance company. The team includes partner and CPA Lindsey O'Malley; attorneys Holland King, Paxton Fleming, and Sara Oakes; CPAs Cassie Goldberg and Jon Reemtsma; specialty tax operations manager Nicole Burge; tax technology data specialist Charlie Crampton; and legal assistant Sophia deGarmo.

With a focus on specialty tax and financial incentives, this multi-disciplinary team advises and supports on all aspects of economic incentives across the country and beyond. Together, the team has secured more than $1 billion in direct cash benefits for clients in nearly every state, in addition to a variety of foreign jurisdictions. This includes obtaining economic and tax benefits in the form of significant cash grants, tax credits, and refunds, focusing on national and local incentives as well as opportunity zone investments. In connection with these efforts, the team also works on behalf of, and alongside, the industry's top accounting firms.

Leading this diverse team of professionals, Staudacher focuses on business and tax advisory matters, assisting businesses in reducing tax liabilities by uncovering beneficial tax opportunities and monetizing tax credits and economic incentives. Her practice includes advising CEOs, CFOs, general counsel, VPs of tax, and C-suite executives on tax, capital project financing, and strategic growth projects. She is based in the Detroit (Southfield) office.

O'Malley, based in Chicago, focuses her practice on corporate tax incentive projects across the country for both public and private companies and ranging from complex corporate structures to startups. These projects involve federal and state credits and incentives, including Research Tax Credits, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, lobbying expense reviews, and other programs designed to support businesses and job growth. O'Malley is also a licensed CPA and previously spent time at a Big Four accounting firm, where she gained pragmatic and analytical skills that compliment her legal practice.

With the arrival of this 10-member Tax team, Taft continues to be among the fastest-growing law firms in the country today and is home to more than 1,100 lawyers and growing.
