Port-au-Prince, 21 September 2025 (PAHO) - Haiti officially presented its Health National Adaptation Plan (HNAP) during a national workshop convened by the Ministry of Public Health and Population in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, with technical support from PAHO/WHO on September 4th.
The HNAP sets the country's priorities for 2025-2029 to strengthen resilience to climate change by addressing health vulnerabilities, ensuring effective governance, and mobilizing resources for implementation. The plan also outlines mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation to track progress.
During the workshop, participants reviewed the plan's strategic objectives, discussed intersectoral linkages with the broader National Adaptation Plan, and examined the impacts of climate change on health, including climate-sensitive diseases and pressures on health services. The session concluded with the validation of institutional roles and the establishment of a coordination mechanism to guide implementation.
With the launch of the HNAP, Haiti has moved from planning to action. A first-year workplan has been endorsed, and a framework for coordination is now in place. The next steps will focus on operationalizing this mechanism, maintaining regular progress reviews, and developing new project proposals on climate and health, including submissions to the Green Climate Fund.
