Baku hosted a round table dedicated to research work on "The Role of Political Parties in the Development of Democracy and Parliamentarism in the Republic of Azerbaijan".
The event was organized by the Baku Office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD).
The round table was attended by representatives of all political parties that received mandates in the new convocation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, state structures, other international parliamentary organizations, non-governmental organizations, teaching staff of a number of higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan and experts.
Office Director Ramin Rzayev briefly talked about the history of the CIS, emphasizing that the foreign policy of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev clearly shows the line of expansion of cooperation with the Commonwealth countries, especially in humanitarian sphere, culture, science, education, sports and other spheres.
Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy sent a welcome address to the participants of the round table. The address was delivered by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council - Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aydin Jafarov. The greeting said that the deputy corps of Azerbaijan, representing the whole spectrum of political forces of the country, takes an active part in the work of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
Activity of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan under the leadership of Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova is aimed at strengthening ties between countries and exchange of best practices of democratic construction, the greeting noted.
In their speeches the members of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan noted the role of political parties in the formation of democratic civil society.
