The issue contains a total of 11 peer-reviewed articles reflecting diverse research and scholarly discussion in the field of education. Among them is an article by scholars from the University of Akureyri addressing one of the most pressing issues in contemporary higher education-the use of artificial intelligence.
The article, entitled "ChatGPT in Higher Education: Teachers' Attitudes and Use," is authored by Jórunn Elídóttir, Associate Professor, and Sólveig Zophaníasdóttir, Adjunct, both from the Faculty of Education. The article examines university teachers' attitudes toward and experiences with using the AI tool ChatGPT in teaching and research, drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).
The study is based on both quantitative and qualitative data collected through a survey conducted among 23 university teachers. The findings indicate that most respondents consider ChatGPT to be useful in both teaching and research. However, concerns are also expressed, particularly regarding students' use of artificial intelligence, academic integrity, and reliability. Teachers' attitudes are shaped, among other factors, by the perceived usefulness of ChatGPT, its ease of use, and the level of support and training available to them.
The authors emphasize the importance of the higher education community developing a clear policy on the use of AI tools and strengthening AI literacy among both teachers and students. Such an approach is considered essential for promoting responsible, critical, and creative use of artificial intelligence in higher education.
