Joe Andrew - Dentons’ Founding Global Chairman to retire

March 16, 2026

Dentons, the world's largest global law firm, announces that Partner and previous Global Chairman, Joe Andrew, will retire at the end of the month.

Joe Andrew served as Dentons' Founding Global Chairman from the Firm's inception until March 2023. Working closely with former Global CEO Elliott Portnoy, he helped advance a series of innovative strategic initiatives fundamental to Dentons' growth and long-term success. In his role, Joe represented the Firm with clients around the world, strategic partners, and business and government leaders, and was an ambassador for Dentons on the global stage. Central to his leadership was a clear vision for the law firm of the future - one defined by global expansion, connecting talent to opportunity and serving clients wherever they have needs. As Global Chairman, Joe was the architect of Dentons' global strategy. He led the Firm's more than 50 law firm combinations, helping to build the world's largest global law firm with unmatched geographic reach.

"I am deeply grateful to Joe for his contributions that have made Dentons what it is today," said Kate Barton, Dentons Global CEO. "Because of his leadership, we are uniquely positioned in the market to support our clients anywhere in the world and on their most complex challenges."

"Joe has played a key role in the Firm's history, and I wish him well as he begins his retirement," said Sonia Martin, CEO of Dentons US. "His legacy can be seen across the Firm."

"I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a role in building Dentons and working alongside so many talented colleagues around the world," said Joe Andrew. "The Firm's success has always been driven by its talented people who live in and serve clients in more than 85 countries around the world, and I am confident that it will continue to cement its position as not only the largest but the most innovative law firm."

In addition to his leadership roles, Joe counseled companies worldwide on corporate and policy strategies across a wide range of industries, including technology, insurance, energy, life sciences, banking and telecommunications. He also advised foreign business leaders and heads of state, and counseled corporations on matters arising from Capitol Hill, the White House and U.S. administrative agencies. Since joining in 2004, Joe has advised Fortune 500 mergers, particularly in the health care and insurance sectors.

Joe's career has been widely recognized by leading publications. In June 2025, the Financial Times named him one of the 20 most innovative law firm leaders of the past 20 years, underscoring the lasting impact of his leadership and vision.
