Rep. John James (MI-10) today issued a statement after the Michigan Legislature approved funding for Selfridge Air National Guard Base:
"From the day I was sworn in, I understood what Selfridge means to Macomb County, Michigan, and our national security. While others questioned its future, I never gave up on Selfridge. Losing Selfridge was never an option. Today's state funding passage, in conjunction with the federal funding I secured in the U.S. House, is another major step toward securing this crown jewel for the next generation.
"Under
the plan approved by the U.S. House, Selfridge is getting more than half of the construction money for all Air National Guard bases nationwide - it's getting 56 cents out of every dollar. The $162 million I requested for Selfridge is also the 2nd largest appropriation for military construction overall, behind just one project for the Space Force. That shows how important this project is, and what a big win this is for Michigan."
