Canberra: Stand with Tibet on 10 March

Parliament House, Canberra

For Tibetans around the world, 10 March is the most important day in their political calendar.

In 1959, thousands of Tibetans took to the streets of Lhasa to resist China's invasion. The brutal crackdown that followed led to the loss of many lives and forced the Dalai Lama and over 80,000 Tibetans into exile. Today, around 3,000 Tibetan refugees have built new lives in Australia and advocate for human rights in Tibet.

China continues to maintain an iron grip on Tibet with arbitrary detention, torture, and invasive surveillance. One of the greatest threats to Tibetan identity is the boarding school system, where Tibetan children (some as young as four) are forcibly separated from their families and taught only in Mandarin, cutting them off from their language and culture.

"We cannot stay silent while a generation of Tibetan children is taken from their language, culture, and community."

Given Australia's own history of governments removing children from their families, we know how devastating this kind of harm is. We cannot stay silent while a generation of Tibetan children is taken from their language, culture, and community. This is a community-led rally that we are proud to endorse and support.

Join us on 10 March to stand in solidarity with the Australian Tibetans and the people of Tibet, to let them know they do not suffer alone.
