Annual Household Item Giveaway for UW International Students and Scholars Aug. 29

The annual household item giveaway for international students and scholars attending the University of Wyoming is Saturday, Aug. 29, at the UW parking lot south of the tennis courts on 22nd Street and Willett Drive.

Items can be dropped off at the UW parking lot between 7-7:30 a.m. Students will be allowed to take items beginning at 8 a.m.

"International students and scholars come to UW from all over the world -- approximately 76 countries. Many arrive to the university with a large suitcase or two. In need of building a home away from home, international students and scholars need basic household items," says Abby Lozano, a coordinator in the International Students and Scholars (ISS) office. "For years, the Laramie community has come together to donate their items to the incoming student and scholar community, creating a welcoming environment, helping to ensure success for the international community and continuing to make the larger Laramie community the special place that it is."

All donations are subject to inspection. Items that are broken or are missing pieces will not be accepted. Clothing also cannot be accepted.

Beneficial items include kitchen supplies, chairs, tables, home décor and bedding. For large items, organizers ask that donors include contact information so the items can be retrieved if they're not taken.

"We welcome those who donate to stick around to watch this event and help students take items back to their new homes," Lozano says.

Items that are not taken by students will need to be picked up after the event, usually between 9-9:15 a.m.
