China’s Permanent Representative to the IAEA Ambassador Li Song Attends a Special Session on U.S. and Israeli Military Strikes against Iran

On March 2, the IAEA Board of Governors convened a special session on the U.S. and Israel military strikes against Iran.

Ambassador Li Song, the Permanent Representative of China to IAEA, said that the U.S. and Israel have once again launched military strikes against Iran, including attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities under the IAEA safeguards. China is highly concerned about these developments. China consistently advocates adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and opposes the use or threat of force in international relations. It is unacceptable for the U.S. and Israel to launch attacks against Iran in the midst of ongoing Iran-U.S. negotiations, blatantly assassinate the leader of a sovereign country and instigate regime change. These actions seriously violate Iran's sovereignty and security, trample on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms in international relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns such actions. China calls for an immediate cessation of military operations and a prompt return to dialogue and negotiations, and urges joint opposition to unilateral actions. The international community should make clear and unequivocal voice in opposing the regression of the world to the law of the jungle.
