Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Attends the Reception Celebrating 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Cabo Verde and the People’s Republic of China

On April 29, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu attended the reception celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cabo Verde and the People's Republic of China held by the Embassy of the Republic of Cabo Verde, China, and delivered a speech.

Miao Deyu stated that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Cabo Verde have supported each other, treated each other as equals, deepened mutually beneficial cooperation, and promoted people-to-people connectivity, setting a fine example of South-South cooperation as well as mutual respect and win-win collaboration between large and small countries.‌ Currently, amid a complex and volatile international situation, both China and Africa uphold multilateralism, safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and oppose unilateralism and bullying pressure. Starting May 1, China will implement zero tariffs on all goods from African countries with which it has diplomatic ties. China is willing to work with African nations, including Cabo Verde, to fully leverage this policy benefit and elevate China-Cabo Verde and China-Africa friendly, mutually beneficial cooperation to new heights.

Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva of Cabo Verde delivered a video address, emphasizing that the Cabo Verde-China relationship is solid, stable, mutually beneficial, and win-win.‌ The Cabo Verdean side adheres to the one-China principle, firmly supports multilateralism, and wishes to expand cooperation with China in agriculture, energy, economy and other fields, promoting greater development of the two countries' strategic partnership. In his speech, Ambassador of Cabo Verde to China‌ Arlindo do Rosário thanked China for its selfless assistance during Cabo Verde's struggle for national liberation and development, stated that the outcomes of Cabo Verde-China cooperation have benefited the people, and expressed belief that China's zero-tariff initiative will bring new opportunities for Cabo Verde's development. The Cabo Verdean side is willing to work hand in hand with China to achieve a new leap in bilateral relations.
