Scranton’s Beta Alpha Psi Chapter Earns Prestigious Gold Status

A yearlong commitment to service, professional development and student engagement has earned The University of Scranton's Nu Kappa chapter of Beta Alpha Psi prestigious recognition from the international honor society.

The University's Nu Kappa chapter recently learned of its Gold Status designation, one of the highest levels of recognition bestowed on chapters by Beta Alpha Psi. Having more than 300 chapters and thousands of members, Beta Alpha Psi is the premier international honor and service organization for financial and business information students and professionals.

"Our chapter's achievements are a testament to the dedication and support of so many individuals. None of this would be possible without the hard work and leadership of our student officers, the enthusiasm and engagement of our members, and the unwavering commitment of our Scranton alumni and professional partners. Their generosity in sharing their time, expertise and financial support allows us to provide meaningful opportunities that extend beyond the classroom," said Amanda Marcy '10, G'11, Ph.D.'20, associate professor of accounting and the chapter's faculty advisor. "I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and grateful to everyone who contributes to our chapter's continued success."

The Gold Status designation caps an exceptionally active 2025-26 academic year for the chapter, whose members participated in a wide range of initiatives designed to advance student development and community engagement.

In addition to donating 189 books to local organizations, assembling more than 100 blessing bags for area youth and creating more than 150 holiday cards for community agencies, Nu Kappa members organized workshops focused on topics such as artificial intelligence, ethics and career preparation. Members also organized networking events and guest speaker presentations, among numerous other activities, and they represented the chapter at Beta Alpha Psi's Mid-Year and Annual Meetings in Orlando, Florida, and Baltimore, Maryland.

The University's Nu Kappa chapter was established in 2015. It has now earned Gold Status four years in a row, reflecting the chapter's sustained commitment to professional development, service and outreach.

"Earning Gold Status for the fourth consecutive year is an exceptional accomplishment that reflects the excellence and sustained commitment of our Nu Kappa chapter," said Douglas M. Boyle, DBA'88, professor and chair of accounting at The University of Scranton. "Under Dr. Amanda Marcy's leadership, our students exemplify the ideals of a Jesuit education by combining professional excellence with ethical leadership and service to others."
