3-peat! Lake Como wins National Neighborhood of the Year again

Lake Como delivered and the T-shirts say "3-Peat."

The Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council and community partners were recognized by the Fort Worth City Council on June 9 for earning the national Neighborhood of the Year title from Neighborhoods USA (NUSA), marking Lake Como's third consecutive national title.

District 6 Councilmember Dr. Mia Hall welcomed neighborhood leaders during the council meeting and praised Lake Como's continued commitment to service and community building.

"Lake Como is a model neighborhood demonstrating what can be accomplished when residents come together in the name of service and in the name of community," Hall said.

Mayor Mattie Parker also recognized the neighborhood's accomplishments. "These folks show up every single day for their neighborhoods, teaching us all what it looks like to be great neighbors," Parker said.

The national title builds on momentum Lake Como has already generated this year. Before receiving the overall Neighborhood of the Year award, the neighborhood first won the Social Revitalization and Neighborliness category for its College Dorm Kit Program.

The program was already familiar to many Fort Worth residents. Earlier this year, it received the Community Collaboration and Engagement Award at the Mayor's Community Engagement Neighborhood Awards. During that same event, Lake Como was also named Neighborhood of the Year for the third consecutive year.

The College Dorm Kit Program, led by Como Lions Heart in collaboration with the Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council, goes beyond helping students pack for college. In 2025, 28 graduating seniors were matched with sponsors, connected to college readiness resources and supported by volunteers who helped prepare them for the transition to campus life. By the time students headed off to school, they carried more than dorm supplies and laptops. They left knowing an entire neighborhood was invested in their success.

That support came from every corner of the neighborhood. Residents, businesses, churches, schools, alumni groups and community partners contributed more than $30,000 in financial and in-kind resources to the effort. Volunteers dedicated hundreds of hours to supporting the program, from fundraising and mentoring to preparing students and families for move-in day.

This year's award continues an impressive streak for the neighborhood. Lake Como earned the national Neighborhood of the Year title in 2024 for its Juneteenth Celebration and Walk and again in 2025 for its Lake Como Cemetery Revitalization efforts.

The College Dorm Kit Program now adds a third consecutive national title to Lake Como's resume. Together, the three award-winning projects tell the story of a neighborhood that honors its past while investing in its future.
