The Consumer Brands Association issued the following statement from Consumer Brands President and CEO Melissa Hockstad on the USTR's update to the Section 232 inclusions process:
"Consumer Brands appreciates the Trump administration's continued efforts to promote U.S. steel, aluminum and copper production and welcomes its updated approach to Section 232 derivative product inclusions, which provides greater clarity and a more disciplined process for evaluating requests. Now more than ever, it is vital to increase domestic production of critical inputs like tin mill steel, while seeking to avoid unintended consequences that may arise from evolving policy approaches. We encourage continued attention to the right mix of protections, incentives and other policy tools to increase domestic production, while avoiding negative impacts on affordability where there are significant shortfalls in domestic availability or no availability whatsoever, as is the case for some agricultural commodities. Continuing to pursue this thoughtful approach will enable the success of America First trade policy, protecting U.S. manufacturers and consumers for decades to come."
