$3.7 Million in Arts Grants to Strengthen Alabama’s Creative Communities
MONTGOMERY, Ala., (September 16, 2025) - The arts in Alabama are more than just an expression of creativity; they are a driver of innovation and economic growth, an inspiration for students and lifelong learners, and a cultivator of cross-sector collaboration and community engagement. That's why the Alabama State Council on the Arts is investing $3,769,280 in grantsto 176 organizations, supporting a wide range of arts initiatives, from local theater productions and public art murals to cultural festivals and education-based touring programs. The long-lasting effects these investments create can be felt across the state, from bustling city centers to small-town main streets.
"Public funding is essential in fostering a thriving arts ecosystem, and we are proud to support organizations that enrich the lives of Alabamians through creativity," said Elliot Knight, executive director of the Council on the Arts. "We encourage members of the public to explore upcoming events and artistic programs in their local communities and experience how these investments contribute to the quality of life in our state."
This cycle of funding comprises 221 total grants, including:
- General operating support for 29 arts organizations, with additional operating support for statewide partner organizations and arts education initiatives.
- Project grant support for 145 organizations and educational institutions that provide arts programming for communities across Alabama-and beyond.

The grants above are awarded for the 2026 fiscal year (October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026). All applications are reviewed by Council on the Arts staff for eligibility, a panel of peers from the artistic and creative sector, the Grants Review Committee of the Council, and by the full 15-member Council. The next grant application deadline is December 1, 2025, for Creative Places Arts Facilities; organizations can apply for funding beginning October 1, 2025.

The Council on the Arts is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama.
