AUC Chairperson reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to advancing regional & continental integration through stronger collaboration among RECs at 24th COMESA Summit

At today's 24th Summit of the #COMESA Authority of Heads of State & Government in Nairobi, Kenya, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the @_AfricanUnion Commission, reaffirmed the AU's commitment to advancing regional & continental integration through stronger collaboration among RECs.

The Chairperson underscored that the expiry of #AGOA & new US tariffs on African exports threaten economic growth & competitiveness across the continent, further underscoring the urgency of fully operationalizing the #AfCFTA.

Mr. Youssouf urged all Regional Economic Communities to eliminate persistent non-tariff barriers & implement the technical provisions required for seamless intra-African trade, driving structural transformation towards #Agenda2063.

He concluded by saying that COMESA, as part of the tripartite COMESA-EAC-SADC framework, can serve as a model of integration & a beacon lighting Africa's path toward a united, prosperous & self-reliant continent.
