Reducing energy waste is an operations principle for NETSCOUT. Lean operations support both cost savings and companywide sustainability goals. As discussed in our previous blog on sustainability, NETSCOUT has made significant progress in reducing the amount of energy consumed by its InfiniStream network monitoring appliances. By making changes to the design of the appliances, we have dramatically decreased energy usage with no trade-off in performance. This product sustainability improvement is just one of the more visible external initiatives that benefit our customers.
NETSCOUT has formally committed to reducing its own environmental footprint across operations and products, via science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets that have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative. NETSCOUT continues to make progress toward these goals by reducing emissions from on-site operations and electricity consumption, as well as improving product energy efficiency.
To help manage the company's operational footprint, a working group focused on sustainable practices collaborates with various stakeholders across the business, such as engineering, information technology, facilities, and finance teams, to find ways to drive greater sustainability. One key area of focus for this working group has been NETSCOUT's data centers, which are some of the largest energy consumers within the company.
Energy management is a key consideration of NETSCOUT's strategic planning. Data center efficiency can be improved by consolidating equipment, reducing unnecessary processing, and optimizing cooling infrastructure.
A power-saving initiative at NETSCOUT's development center in Modena, Italy, is a good example of the success of these efforts. Energy consumption in the development lab was reduced by approximately 20 percent as a result of automated power-saving processes.
In the company's 2024 ESG report, Jeff Levinson, NETSCOUT senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief ESG officer, commented on NETSCOUT's progress to date.
"NETSCOUT took an important step in its commitment to responsible stewardship by submitting emission reduction targets to the Science Based Target initiative [SBTi]," he said. "We deliberately set targets to show our commitment and to ensure integration with our existing corporate strategy. Our targets and the work that goes into it reflect the progress we have made with our sustainability-by-design innovation approach that supports long-term value creation."
The SBTi is a global nonprofit that develops standards, tools, and guidance used by more than 5,000 companies around the world to achieve sustainability goals. In September 2024, the SBTi approved targets submitted by NETSCOUT as meeting or exceeding its standard. This has been an important part of NETSCOUT's efforts to hold itself to the highest standards possible when it comes to sustainability.
NETSCOUT makes the energy efficiency of its platforms a top priority. This involves optimizing designs to increase the efficiency of software and hardware deployed at customer sites. While the primary focus is on supporting customer sustainability goals, NETSCOUT is also a beneficiary of these advancements. The company utilizes its own highly efficient InfiniStream appliances throughout its infrastructure. This allows NETSCOUT to enjoy the same energy savings that customers do.
In the years to come, NETSCOUT will continue to refine its product designs to maximize energy efficiency to deliver the most sustainable solutions possible.
Partners and NETSCOUT alike all benefit from thoughtful, rigorous engineering that minimizes energy consumption while still delivering world-class results.
