Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement on the seventeenth anniversary of the Colgan Air Flight 3407 plane crash in Western NY:
"Seventeen years ago, the tragic Colgan Air Flight 3407 crash forever changed Western NY. But in the midst of unimaginable suffering, the families of those we lost turned grief into action and pain into purpose, championing the most significant aviation safety reforms in decades. Time after time since then, I have proudly worked alongside them to beat back special interests and those who have sought to weaken the rules we passed to honor Flight 3407. Their unwavering dedication has changed the course of aviation history in America and has undoubtedly saved many lives. While we mourn the precious lives lost that day, we reaffirm their memory by continuing to protect and strengthen the aviation safety standards that serve as their legacy for all Americans."
