PM meeting with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine: 24 August 2026

The Prime Minister met the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv today following a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.

The Prime Minister started by thanking President Zelenskyy for the warm welcome he had been given by the Ukrainian people on his first visit.

It had been an honest and productive conversation during the Coalition of the Willing, the leaders agreed, and it was clear the international community needed to step up and ensure Ukraine got the support it needed to defend itself from Russia's barbaric attacks going into the winter.

The Prime Minister emphasised the strength of unity among coalition members and reiterated that there would be no change in the UK's steadfast support.

That was further symbolised by the announcement that the UK had agreed that defence firm MBDA could release classified information on UK components for the long-range missile, SCALP, the Prime Minister said.

Turning to the economic situation, the leaders discussed the need to work with the insurance industry to support the resilience of Ukraine's critical infrastructure and businesses.

The leaders also welcomed the new AI partnership between the UK and Ukraine, which would bring opportunity and potential to revolutionise aspects of public life in both countries.

The leaders agreed to stay in close touch.
