HARTLAND, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited the Town of Hartland to tour local community development projects supported by millions of dollars in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) she secured through the Appropriations process. She was joined by Hartland Town Manager Chris Littlefield, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Dillon Russ, and other town employees.
Senator Collins toured the Town's wastewater treatment facility, where major infrastructure improvements are taking place supported by $5 million she secured in 2024. The project will help the system better serve residents while supporting local industry and attracting new businesses.
She also visited the Irving Tanning Community Center, which has a new roof and will soon have a new furnace with the help of $238,000 she secured in 2024. The center serves residents of Hartland, Palmyra, and St. Albans for public events, town meetings, youth recreation programs, and as an American Red Cross emergency shelter.
"From improving a community gathering place to upgrading critical municipal infrastructure, these projects will help ensure that the Town of Hartland is better positioned for future growth and development," said Senator Collins. "I worked hard to secure this funding, along with support for hundreds of other development projects that are helping communities across Maine carry out significant improvements that might otherwise have taken years."
In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured nearly $1.5 billion for 670 projects across Maine's 16 counties.
