Detectives Working Active Leads In East Nashville Death Investigation

Homicide Unit detectives are working active leads in Monday's 8 p.m. death of James Sutton, 59, on South 5th and Russell Streets in East Nashville. Sutton was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died after the initial investigation suggested that he might have been hit by a car and sustained fatal injuries as a result.

Further investigation last night, enhanced by nearby surveillance cameras, revealed Sutton was physically assaulted by another man and fell into the roadway. It is unclear if he was then run over by a passing vehicle. He was found to have a severe head injury and multiple broken ribs.

Anyone with information on this ongoing death investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
