eNews Alumni Spotlight highlights alumni who give back to Frostburg in some way - time, talent, treasure or any combination. This edition of eNews features Miranda Stott Barber '06.
Current City: Cumberland, Md.
Current Occupation: Vice President of Marketing at First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union
Frostburg was a good financial fit me for me. I was able to stay local and save money while pursuing my degree.
Networking for sure. Coming from a small town and deciding to stay there isn't for everyone. I enjoyed meeting different people with different viewpoints. I still maintain both professional and personal relationships with some of those people.
Dr. Carol Gaumer '89/M'91 was my advisor and one of my marketing professors during my time at FSU. She was local to the area and had previously worked at ATK in the field she was teaching. I gained valuable career insight and benefited from her teaching methods. I ultimately focused on marketing as my area of expertise.
The more specialized you are in this career path, the better. Business is such a broad career path that its hard to stand out. I considered a minor in PR and didn't ultimately pursue it and I wish I had.
It's important to stay connected to your community - to pay it forward and share real-world experiences as well as FSU's brand. This institution helped shaped who I am and it gives me great satisfaction to give back.
I've always been intrigued by human behavior. I enjoyed the psychology courses I took as electives at FSU and still apply the knowledge and skills I learned today.
Alzheimer's Disease. My maternal grandmother suffered for over 10 years with this disease and we watched it change so much of who she was.
I reconnect with friends and travel as much as I can. I always choose experiences over things.
Inspiring. Resilient. Innovative.
I'm currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. I'm also a 2024 graduate of Allegany County's Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.
