City of Bismarck Heavy Equipment Operator Gary Steiner earned top honors in the Motor grader event and claimed his second overall title at the Bismarck Public Works Equipment Operator Roadeo on Wednesday, September 24. Steiner previously won the event in 2023.
Fellow Bismarck equipment operators Jared Schwab and Chad Stroh also took first place in their respective events: Schwab in the Single-axle plow truck and Stroh in the Loader competition. Schwab entered this year's roadeo as the 2024 defending co-champion in the Motor grader event after sharing the title with Josh Ficek in 2024.
While the annual roadeo includes a competitive element, its primary purpose is to provide area equipment operators with hands-on training in a consequence-free environment. The event simulates real-world conditions - minus the snow and ice - and helps operators sharpen the skills they rely on during the winter season to keep roadways clear. About 55 competitors took part in this year's event.
The City of Bismarck's Roads and Streets Division maintains nearly 400 center line miles and about 1,700 lane miles of asphalt and concrete roadway throughout the year. For more information, visit the Roads and Streets Division webpage.
