ATLANTA - State Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) was recently awarded the "2026 Legislative Perseverance Award for Advocacy and Passage of House Bill 304" from the Council of Municipal Court Judges. House Bill 304, legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Reeves and signed into law in May 2026, creates the Office of Senior Municipal Court Judge and Georgia Municipal Court Clerks' Council.
"I am honored to represent Suwanee, Sugar Hill and Duluth, and I am honored to work with Georgia's cities to make our local courts operate effectively for the benefit of city residents," said Rep. Reeves. "This bill promotes public safety and makes people safer at home, at work and on our roadways."
House Bill 304 creates the office of Senior Municipal Court Judge, which is similar to the office structure of the superior and state court. In creating this office, HB 304 seeks to assist Georgia's city courts in handling large caseloads efficiently and effectively. HB 304 also creates the Municipal Court Clerks' Council, with the goal of helping city clerks promote training, best management practices and excellence in administration among Georgia's 535 cities. Rep. Reeves previously sponsored House Bill 926 in 2024, also known as the Second Chance Workforce Act, which seeks to promote criminal justice reform, workforce and education by reforming Georgia's driver's license revocation procedures. The full text of HB 926 may be found here.
During the 2025 interim, Rep. Reeves was appointed chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance and Affordability by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington). Following the work of the study committee, Rep. Reeves sponsored House Bill 1344 during the 2026 legislative session. Also known as Georgia Insurance Affordability and Claims Integrity Act, HB 1344 was signed into law in May 2026 and updates Georgia insurance law by strengthening consumer protections.
