Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores | February 19, 2026 | Press Release
The Government of Mexico, through the Consulate General in San Antonio, the Embassy in the United States, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is closely monitoring the situation of Mexican nationals detained at the Dilley, Texas immigration processing center, with special attention to cases involving minors.
Consular staff are in direct communication with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to verify the health and medical care of detained Mexican nationals. In the recent cases of two families held at the facility whose children fell ill during detention, the Consulate General in San Antonio, together with other consulates, has been in contact with the parents and their legal representatives to provide appropriate consular support and assistance.
Consular personnel conducted an on-site visit to Dilley today to interview Mexican nationals and confirmed that they are receiving daily medical care and have access to psychological support. The detainees have the consulate's emergency contact numbers, as well as those of the Center for Information and Assistance for Mexicans (CIAM), which are clearly posted in the facility.
Additionally, the Undersecretary for North America has requested detailed information through diplomatic channels regarding the overall conditions at the facility and the situation of detained Mexican families. The Mexican Embassy is likewise following up directly with U.S. federal authorities.
Protecting the wellbeing and human rights of Mexican nationals abroad remains a top priority for the Government of Mexico, which will continue to provide consular assistance and protection through every available diplomatic and legal means.
