WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) released the following statement after voting for H. Res. 719, a resolution condemning the assassination of Charles "Charlie" James Kirk and honoring his life and legacy:
"Charlie Kirk was a husband, a father, a Christian, and a patriot. He gave everything he had to this country, and he was murdered because he refused to be silent. That bullet was meant to do more than take Charlie's life, it was meant to intimidate every single one of us who still believes in America. Let me be clear: it failed. Charlie's voice will carry forward through every young American he inspired, and his legacy will outlast the hatred that tried to silence him.
By passing this resolution, Congress made it plain that political violence has no place in our Republic. We condemn it in the strongest possible terms. We honor Charlie's family, we thank law enforcement for pursuing justice, and we commit ourselves to ensuring that his fight-for faith, for freedom, for truth-will continue.
This vote was personal for me, and it should be personal for every American. Because if we allow bullets to replace debate, if we shrug at the assassination of a man for his beliefs, then we lose everything. I refuse to let that happen. I was proud to vote for this resolution, and I will never stop fighting to make sure Charlie Kirk's torch burns brighter than ever."
