TREC August Meeting Highlights

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) met August 10, 2026, to discuss changes to education reporting through the Real Estate and Appraiser License Management (REALM) Portal, the membership of the Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee, and more.

Updated Broker Responsibility Course

The Commission approved the text of the 2027-2028 Broker Responsibility Course book. The updated course is designed to cover broker supervision and responsibility. It also reflects a change in who is required to take the course.

Broker applicants and renewing brokers, regardless of whether they intend to sponsor a sales agent, as well as delegated supervisors, are required to complete the Broker Responsibility Course.

Streamlining Qualifying Education Reporting

The Commission adopted amendments to four rules covering qualifying real estate education and continuing education: 535.62, 535.65, 535.75 and 535.92. The changes are part of TREC's transition to the REALM Portal and are intended to make the processing of education records more efficient and automated.

Under the updated rules, course completion certificates will be referred to as "course completion records," a change intended to more accurately describe the documents education providers submit to the Commission.

For qualifying real estate coursework, providers will be required beginning October 1 to include either the student's license number or application number on the course completion record. This information will allow the REALM Portal to automate a process that previously required students to submit certificates and TREC staff to manually review and enter the course completion information.

The amendments also streamline the information education providers must submit to TREC and align the qualifying education requirements with existing continuing education provider requirements. And terminology is updated throughout the rules for consistency.

Texas Real Estate Inspector Committee

The Texas Real Estate Inspector Committee (TREIC) reviewed comments to the proposed changes to its Standards of Practice (SOPs) and report forms. Because the committee's review coincided with recommendations from the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO), the committee withdrew its proposed changes so it could evaluate the TREO recommendations before bringing forward additional revisions.

TREC Adopts Changes to BRAC Membership

The Commission adopted amendments to rule 535.46, relating to the Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee. The changes replace two broker member positions with public member positions to help ensure balanced representation between the regulated industry and consumers, as required by state law.
